The Museum of Yugoslav History (Muzej istorije Jugoslavije - MIJ) was founded in 1996 as a successor to the Memorial Centre “Josip Broz Tito” and the Museum of the Revolution of Peoples and Nationalities of Yugoslavia. In November 2007, the Museum of Yugoslav History was registered as one of Serbia’s state-run cultural institutions. In the end of 2009, the museum had more than 70 000 visitors, mainly guests from abroad. It is estimated that almost 50% of the visitors are from former Yugoslav Republics and other are from U.S. Korea, Japan, China and Western European countries (Italy, Spain, France). Apart of being one of the Serbia’s biggest tourist attractions, since its founding, the museum hosted more than 69 exhibitions and projects, so far.
